Karun Nair, India’s last triple centurion, is making waves in domestic cricket with an impressive average of 664 in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He has scored four consecutive centuries, bringing his total to five in this year's tournament. Despite this remarkable run of form, Nair's accomplishments have largely gone unnoticed, and he has not been included in the Champions Trophy squad thus far. This situation has been disheartening, prompting Robin Uthappa to come to the defense of his Karnataka teammate. Uthappa highlighted that Nair's efforts have been overlooked and questioned the criteria for selection in the team.
Nair was last seen in the Indian jersey in a few matches following his iconic triple century of 303 against England, making him the second batter after Virender Sehwag to achieve this feat. Despite consistently outstanding performances in the domestic arena, he has not been recalled to the Indian team. Now, with another record-breaking season in terms of statistics, he continues to be ignored.
In a recent interview, former Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa expressed his frustration with how players in good domestic form often get overlooked. He highlighted Abhimanyu Easwaran’s case and brought up Karun Nair’s situation, calling out India’s cricket system for its inconsistencies.

Uthappa said, "If you're not going to give him a chance, then why keep giving him false hope? Just tell him straight that you don't believe he can make it at the international level and that domestic cricket is where his future lies. This has happened to so many players, like Karun Nair, who scored a triple century but was dropped after just two Tests."
He added, "It’s a shocking reality, and it reflects the flaws in our cricket ecosystem."
