None of the Indian players found a spot in ICC's ODI team of the year in 2024. Team India played just three ODIs last year losing all three of them. They played an ODI series against Sri Lanka and lost the series.

The ODI series against Sri Lanka was the first for Gautam Gambhir who took over as the head coach of the Indian team after India won the T20 World Cup. It was a shocking result for the Indian side against their Asian rivals.

The ODI series win for the Lankans was the first over India in the last 27 years. Gambhir who had a winning start in T20Is to his tenure as head coach lost his very first ODI series against Sri Lanka away from home. It was a rare ODI series for India in recent years as they have dominated the format. They also reached the final of the ODI World Cup at home.
