Mitchell Marsh ruled out of ICC Champions Trophy 2025

Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has been ruled out of the ICC Champions Trophy with a back injury. Cricket Australia will name his replacement soon. Australia have already announced their provisional squad with Pat Cummins set to lead the side.

Marsh who has been haunted by several injury concerns throughout his career has now picked up a back injury before the start of the marquee ICC event. He picked up the injury in the recently concluded Test series against India. His bowling workload was being managed until he lost his place to Beau Webster in the final Test in Sydney.

Cricket Australia has come up with a statement on the Australian all-rounder after he experienced symptoms of lower back pain during his rehabilitation programme forcing the selectors to rule him out of the tournament.

"The National Selection Panel and Australian men's medical team ruled Marsh out of the tournament with the injury which has not responded sufficiently to rehabilitation," a CA release stated.
"His lower back pain flared in recent weeks leading the NSP to make the longer term decision for Marsh to complete a more extended period of rehabilitation. Marsh will now undergo a period of further rest and rehabilitation as part of his return to play plan."

Mitchell Marsh Last Played In The BBL Against Melbourne Renegades

Since the Test series against India, Marsh played just one BBL game for Perth Scorchers against Melbourne Renegades where he was out for a duck on January 7. With Pat Cummins currently out injured, Marsh was expected to lead the side in the Champions Trophy since he is also the T20I skipper of the side. With both facing injury concerns now, Steve Smith is likely to lead the side in the Champions Trophy if Pat Cummins does not recover in time for the tournament. Smith is currently leading the Test side in Sri Lanka.

His recent injury might also see him miss the IPL 2025 where he is set to play for the Lucknow Super Giants who picked him up for 3.4 crores at the recent auction.
