England pacer Brydon Carse ruled out of CT25

England have been rocked ahead of their crucial match against Afghanistan in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Pacer Brydon Carse has been ruled out of the remainder of the tournament with a toe injury.

Rehan Ahmed, the leg-spinner, has been named as his replacement. The pacer missed England's training session on Monday due to a left toe injury, which has been a constant problem in his career.

The pacer had issues while he was in the field against Australia in England's first game, which they lost. He was deemed fit before the match but aggravated his injury during the match. He was also the most expensive bowler for England in their match against Australia.

Carse's injury first came to light in the ODI series against India. It was a blister when it first happened. Later it required stitches that saw Carse miss the final two ODIs. It is now understood to have got worse and may require further treatment. Given the state of his injury, he was ruled out of the rest of the tournament as he needs further treatment.

Rehan Ahmed was named as the replacement for Brydon Carse as the team failed to name a like-for-like replacement. Ahmed was also a part of England's white-ball sides for the tour to India but he did not get to play any matches. His addition comes as a good support for Adil Rashid who was the only specialist spinner for England in their squad.

ENG, AFG Face Off In A Must-Win Game

Craig Overton might play the match against Afghanistan in place of Carse. It will be interesting to see whether England will add both Rashid and Rehan in their playing XI against Afghanistan.

Talking about England and Afghanistan, both teams lost their respective first encounters in this tournament. While England lost to Australia, Afghanistan went down to South Africa. Thus this is a must-win match for both teams. Afghanistan defeated England in the 50-over World Cup match in India.

England in recent times have failed to negate the spin threat as was proved in the white-ball series against India. With Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmed in the squad, the mystery spinners can pose problems for the side.
