BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla has come up with a big update on the likely announcement of the Indian squad for the Champions Trophy. The BCCI recently requested an extension from the ICC to announce their squad for the tournament.
The ICC gave the respective 8 teams a deadline of January 12 to announce their preliminary squads. Teams can further make a change in their squads till February 13. Australia, Afghanistan, England and South Africa recently announced their squads for the tournament.
Bangladesh and New Zealand have also named their preliminary squads. Team India delay for naming their squad was about assessing the fitness of a few players and also assessing the performance from their recent Test series loss to Australia.

BCCI are keen on getting Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami fully fit for the tournament and hence the delay. Meanwhile, at a Special General Meeting on Sunday, Rajeev Shukla said that the Indian team might be announced on Sunday, January 19. Reports of BCCI seeking an extension have already become public.
"The Champions Trophy squad is likely to be announced on January 19" Times of India quoted Rajeev Shukla as saying.
The meeting was held in the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai where Devajit Saikia and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia were announced as BCCI's new secretary and treasurer respectively.
India Squad For England T20I Series Announced On Sunday
Meanwhile, while India's Champions Trophy squad announcement has been delayed, the BCCI on Sunday announced India's squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series against England. The return of Mohammed Shami headlined the news. He is making a comeback to the Indian team for the first time since the ODI World Cup in India. Recently he missed the T20 World Cup and the Border-Gavaskar Series with injury concerns.
Nitish Reddy, Harshit Rana and Washington Sundar have been recalled into the Indian T20I side. Meanwhile, Ramandeep Singh, Vijaykumar Vyshak, Avesh Khan, Yash Dayal and Jitesh Sharma have been dropped from the squad that played in South Africa in November last year.

The five-match series kicks off on January 22 in Kolkata with the next four games scheduled to be held in Chennai (January 25), Rajkot (January 28), Pune (January 31) and Mumbai (February 2). Led by Suryakumar Yadav, Axar Patel has been named the vice-captain for the series.
