England and Australia the arch-rivals take on each other in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 on Saturday, to get their campaign started. The match starts from 2.30 pm in Lahore.
Australia are led by Steve Smith in this tournament with several of their key players missing. Engalnd, on the other hand, will be led by Jos Buttler who were recently whitewashed in an ODI series in India.
Both teams have different concerns heading into their first game in this tournament. England in recent times have not fared properly in ODI cricket. Champions Trophy 2025 Match 4: Australia vs England Match Preview
Australia, heading into this tournament are without their captain Pat Cummin and pace spearhead Mitchell Starc who pulled out from the tournament citing personal reasons. Mitchell Marsh is ruled out due to back injury while Marcus Stoinis took a sudden retirement from the ODI format. Cameron Green is also not available for the Aussies. Jos Hazlewood was also sidelined from the tournament with a hip injury. The biggest hope for the Aussies is the batting form of Travis Head and Steve Smith who played well in Tests and ODIs leading into this Champions Trophy.
For England, the problems are diferent but major. In the recent ODI series against India, none of their batters could play the Indian spinners and more particularly Vartun Chakrarthy. With majority of the teams falling back on spin for success, England batters will need to come out with a plan to negate the threat. Adil Rashid is the sole spinner in the squad for the tournament. It will be interesting to see how Buttler uses him throughout the tournament. The side has already named their playing XI for the match against the Aussies.
