Rain has had the final say! Match 7 of the Champions Trophy 2025, featuring Australia vs. South Africa was abandoned due to heavy rain. Rawalpindi experienced rain from the morning with no signs of it letting up resulting in the match being classified as a no-toss contest. Although rain was predicted the day before, weather reports suggested that it might stop soon, offering hope for a match once the clouds cleared. Unfortunately, the long wait yielded no results and the match was ultimately called off.
Poor Outfield Maintenance in Rawalpindi
The outfield was inadequately covered despite the rain, as the curator focused solely on protecting the pitch while leaving the outfield soaked. This led to numerous questions from experts regarding the stadium's maintenance. Especially, former Indian cricketer Mohammed Kaif tweeted about the stadium's maintenance from his account on 'X.' asking question such as "Was the ICC money utilised wisely by hosts?"
Although the rain stopped at some point, it was impossible to hold a match due to the wet outfield that had been left exposed to the heavy drizzle.
Match Result: Australia vs. South Africa
Both Australia and South Africa will receive one point each because the match was abandoned due to rain. This marks the first washout match of the Champions Trophy 2025.
