The much-awaited Champions Trophy 2025 squad has finally been revealed! Indian captain Rohit Sharma, in the presence of Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar, officially announced the 15-man squad that will travel to Dubai for the marquee tournament of the year.
As expected, the squad features the big names of Indian cricket, with Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Jasprit Bumrah all included, leading the team. These stalwarts of Indian cricket will be pivotal in guiding the team through the tough competition, providing both experience and leadership on the field.
One of the most exciting returns is that of Mohammad Shami, who makes his comeback to the squad after last playing for India during the World Cup 2023. Shami has been in top form and was also recently selected for India’s T20 squad against England. His inclusion strengthens India’s bowling attack, and with the presence of Jasprit Bumrah, the duo will provide a lethal pace attack capable of causing havoc against the opposition in Dubai. Their partnership is expected to be a key factor in India’s success at the tournament.

In contrast, Mohammad Siraj has been dropped from the squad, with Arshdeep Singh taking his place as the third pacer. Arshdeep's left-arm pace and ability to swing the ball both ways will add variety to the attack. Hardik Pandya, the dynamic all-rounder, has also been included, playing a vital role as the fourth pacer, along with his explosive batting in the middle order.
In an unexpected move, Shubman Gill has been named as the vice-captain of the squad. This decision raised eyebrows, especially given his recent form, which hasn’t been as consistent. Gill’s appointment to the vice-captaincy over other seasoned candidates like Jasprit Bumrah, Virat Kohli, and Hardik Pandya surprised many.
However, it seems that Shubman Gill was always seen as a long-term leader, having been handed the vice-captaincy role earlier during Gambhir’s tenure as coach, although it was later dropped. With this new responsibility, Gill will be expected to step up and make significant contributions both with the bat and in terms of leadership.

The squad also includes four spinners, with the addition of Washington Sundar to complement Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel. Kuldeep Yadav, India’s premier left-arm wrist-spinner, is the only dedicated spinner in the squad. This balance between spinners and pacers gives India a well-rounded attack for the conditions in Dubai.
With a mix of youth, experience, and skill, the Indian squad is ready to take on the best teams in the world at the Champions Trophy 2025.
