ICC Player Rankings Details
The ICC Player Rankings represent the official table where international cricket players are ranked based on their performances. This system employs a points-based system, calculated using a sophisticated moving average that results from a series of complex calculations.
Players are rated on a scale ranging from 0 to 1000 points. When a player's performance shows improvement compared to their historical record, their points total increases. Conversely, a dip in performance leads to a decrease in their points.
The value assigned to each player's performance within a specific match is determined by a pre-programmed algorithm. This algorithm executes a series of calculations considering various in-match circumstances. It's important to note that this process is fully automated, involving no human intervention or subjective assessment.
Additionally, the specific factors included in the calculations vary slightly to accommodate the different demands of each format of the game (such as Test, ODI, and T20I).

ICC Rankings FAQs
- Q: How are ICC Team Rankings calculated?
A: The ICC Team Rankings provide a comprehensive assessment of international cricket teams. These rankings are determined through a points-based system, where teams earn points based on their match and series victories. A rating is then calculated by dividing the total points earned by the number of matches played. This rating ultimately dictates a team's position in the ICC rankings, with more recent performances carrying greater weight in the calculation. The latest ICC team rankings are updated regularly to reflect current form.
- Q: When do ICC Rankings get updated?
A: The ICC implemented a weekly update schedule for player rankings in March 2021. Now, ICC Women's ODI and T20I player rankings are refreshed every Tuesday, while the ICC Men's player rankings across all formats – Tests, ODIs, and T20Is – are updated each Wednesday. These weekly updates incorporate results from all matches concluded by the preceding day, excluding any matches played on the update day itself. Team rankings, however, continue their previous update cycle, occurring after the completion of each Test series and every ODI and T20I series.
